Hi, I’m Jo

I’m a certified personal trainer, movement coach specialising in flexibility and mobility training and senior fitness.

These days, my goal is to help as many people as possible, especially the elderly, to move better and more confidently.

My fitness journey and career began when I first started strength training in 2004. I was solely focused on improving my aesthetics and wanted to get as lean as possible. This meant weight training three times a week, cleaning up my diet and doing cardio every day.

With guidance from personal trainers at a commercial gym, I was encouraged to do a personal training certification course to educate myself better.

By 2015, I started doing CrossFit and within a year, I was eventually introduced to competitive weightlifting and CrossFit competitions as the only way to truly test myself in both these sports.

Even though I competed in weightlifting at the Asia Pacific Masters Games 2018 as well as some other local weightlifting meets and team-based local fitness competitions, I found myself plateauing in strength because I was so fatigued from the strenuous training and not resting enough.

In 2019, I decided to take a break from training for competitions, which allowed me to expand my horizons through activities like reformer pilates, indoor climbing and badminton and recently tennis.

However, I ended up injuring my shoulder, which really upset and frustrated me, especially as a fitness trainer, because I was very strict with my form during my workouts and training sessions.

I knew it wasn’t solely because of the activities that I was doing.

To recover from my injury, I sought manual therapy from physiotherapists but saw little improvement.

This was the point I realised that being competitive no longer made me feel fulfilled and the way I trained for competitions laid the path towards injury (due to the stress of overcompensating and overusing my shoulders during training sessions).

I wanted to be smarter about my own body’s capabilities and improve my life from a mobility point of view. The missing piece of the puzzle for me? Functional Range Conditioning® (FRC®) and Kinstretch.

FRC® is a comprehensive, science-backed joint training system developed by world-renowned musculoskeletal expert Dr. Andreo Spina, as well as Kinstretch®, a movement enhancement system.

Through these evidence-based systems, I believed that I would be able to help myself as well as to help others along the way, not just to get out of injuries, but also to prevent injuries and to be able to move more freely and confidently regardless of their chosen sport or daily activities.

While I had a hard time unlearning what I thought I knew about the body, the realisation that this program really works hit me after seeing how my shoulder’s range of motion and mobility progressed through what I learnt and applied from Kinstretch® alone.

It brings me a lot of joy seeing people’s lives change for the better when they manage to get their body back to what it’s supposed to be, just by restoring their mobility and joint health.

FRC® allows me to do this as the practice is specific to your body and what your body needs, allowing you to expand your range of motion, gain strength and improve your own body awareness thus allowing your body to serve you better.

As Malaysia’s first certified Kinstretch® instructor, I’ve taught over 200 Kinstretch® in person and online live classes to date as well as conducted physical Kinstretch® sessions at gyms in the Klang Valley such as CrossFit Lah, Dailymuscle Lighthouse and Savage Studio (under the Savage Gears gym equipment supply company), and KakiGym.

Recently, I have shifted my personal focus to Powerlifting training, but I remain dedicated to flexibility training to improve movement biomechanics and strength. It’s incredibly satisfying to see clients improve their daily lives through fitness and mobility.

If you’re interested in enhancing your flexibility and strength, get in touch and join me for a session. See you soon!
